Inter CEO confirms they are 'waiting for Man Utd's Andre Onana offer'

Inter Milan’s CEO Beppe Marotta has confirmed that are interested in signing No 1 Andre Onana from the Serie A side. 

Erik ten Hag has identified signing a goalkeeper as a priority for the Red Devils after the club secured , on Thursday evening. 

David de Gea – who has been at the Carabao Cup winners for the past 12 years -, and to find a solution to their burgeoning goalkeeping crisis. 

Ten Hag reportedly to Luton on Thursday as the manager was faced with starting next season with only one fully-fit keeper, as second-choice Dean Henderson continues his recovery from a significant thigh injury. 

But Inter could be content to release the club’s first-choice target in the position, as Marotta revealed the Champions League finalists are only awaiting the first move from United.

The Red Devils are yet to confirm whether they will be keeping their No 1 David de Gea, whose contract expires at midnight on Friday

The chief executive confirmed that there had been no official bid despite the club’s interest 

Speaking at the Gran Gala, held in the coastal Italian town of Rimini, Marotta shared details of Man United’s ‘particular interest’ in the player. 

‘Manchester United expressed a particular interest, but that needs to blossom into making a proposal over the next few days,’ the chief executive said when asked about Onana’s future at Inter. 

‘Once that happens, both Inter and the player will make a careful evaluation.’

Marotta confirmed that the club’s director, Piero Ausilio ‘is working on (a deal)’ but that ‘there is still no official bid from United at this stage’. 

Onana joined Inter from Ajax as a free agent last summer, quickly displacing former No 1 Samir Handanovic. 

As such, Onana represents pure profit for the club, who may wish to raise funds in a bid to move for transfer targets including Chelsea players Trevoh Chalobah, and their loaned striker Romelu Lukaku. 

Man United representatives are believed to have to discussed the proposed £50million move, spurred on by Ten Hag’s desire to be reunited with his former player. 

The former Ajax manager is thought to be a great admirer of Onana’s skills playing out from the back – an area of the game that de Gea has struggled with this season – and helped develop him as the keeper rose from the Ajax Jong academy. 

De Gea was expected to extend his deal at Old Trafford with new terms that would have seen the Spaniard take a significant cut on his £375,000-per-week wages.
